GREENLEE Title II Info

Title II of the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act of 2000 (PL 106-393) is intended to foster community participation in management of our federal forestlands. Congress hoped to encourage creativity and innovation through local Resource Advisory Committees (RACs), which recommend Title II projects conducted on federal lands or that affect federal resources. Counties were provided control of funds and the option to direct the funds for use on either Title II or Title III projects (Title III is described elsewhere in this website). This experimental program will be reviewed by Congress in 2006 to determine whether it has been a success.

By becoming a member of a RAC, or by proposing a project, or by having your county fund Title II projects, you are making a valuable contribution to the success and future of PL 106-393.

Title II project tracking forms record information about each project and include information that Congress will use to determine if Title II has been successful. Counties in 42 states are eligible to participate in Title II. If there is a tree icon next to the name of a state below, then one or more counties in that state are funding Title II projects, and the federal land management agencies are using the Title II project tracking forms.
